CALL FOR APPLICANTS: CLIMATE ENTERTAINMENT DEVELOPMENT GRANT OPEN NOW!

Applications are now open for the Film Independent X Plot Shift Media Climate Entertainment Development Grant. Film Independent will award one project in the Screenwriting Lab a $25,000 development grant to independent artists seeking to explore a just and equitable climate future - and the pathways to get there - through innovative storytelling. The screenplay must feature climate themes or have a lead character that is grappling with climate themes. The grant committee prioritizes projects that take an entertainment-first approach to climate storytelling inspire feelings of possibility and agency when it comes to climate solutions, especially through characters and genres not traditionally associated with “climate stories.” Applications open July 1 - August 26 (non-members) / September 09 (members). The film is an allegory for humankind’s hubris which explores: what happens when nature claims what we thought we could control?

This feature doc is an immersive, all-archival origin story that explores how the climate crisis emerged as the defining political issue of our era. Concentrating on the crucial years from 1977 to 1992, the film uncovers how scientific understanding sharpened and how politics surpassed the issue at a pivotal moment in history when an alternative path might have been possible.
